MADISON – Today, State Treasurer and candidate for U.S. Senate Sarah Godlewski kicked off a statewide campaign tour and met with stakeholders in Peshtigo, Marinette, and French Island to discuss their struggles accessing safe, clean drinking water. Earlier today, Sarah released her “Make Wisconsin’s Water Safe” plan to safeguard our drinking water and protect our waterways, so every Wisconsinite can trust the water coming out of their taps at home.
“Residents in Peshtigo, Marinette, French Island, and across our state can’t rely on the water in their own homes because of reckless pollution and dangerous chemicals,” said Sarah Godlewski. “Wisconsin families deserve safe, clean drinking water and accountability — my plan puts families before corporate profits by getting chemicals out of water and restoring residents’ confidence in what comes out of their faucets.”
Water pollution is a top concern for Wisconsinites in every corner of our state. Sarah met with residents in their communities to listen to families who are heavily impacted by unsafe drinking water. Tomorrow, Sarah will continue her campaign tour with a visit to Superior to discuss local water quality and how her plan will reduce barriers to accessing safe, clean water.
Sarah’s plan focuses on four key areas:
- Removing lead from our water
- Keeping PFAS and nitrates out of our water
- Protecting our Great Lakes
- Safeguarding our communities from erosion’s harmful impacts
