MADISON – Yesterday, Ron Johnson said it was too soon to support the bipartisan gun safety framework that would put the safety of Wisconsin families before the gun lobby. Today, State Treasurer and candidate for U.S. Senate Sarah Godlewski is urging Wisconsin voters to tell Ron Johnson to prioritize commonsense gun legislation that protects our communities, not his NRA donors. Since the tragic Uvalde school shooting, there have been 54 mass shootings in the U.S.

“Thinking it’s ‘too soon’ while new gun violence tragedies occur every single day shows how little Ron Johnson cares about keeping our communities and our children safe,” said Sarah Godlewski. “How many more tragedies do we need to go through before he will take action?”

Last week, the U.S. House passed the Protecting Our Kids Act, which would strengthen gun safety efforts. While Ron Johnson and the GOP are looking the other way, Sarah acted quickly and urged the Senate to quickly pass this legislation to keep weapons of war out of the hands of dangerous individuals. Sarah also hosted a gun violence roundtable this month in Milwaukee where she heard how gun violence has personally touched residents’ lives and discussed how she will fight for commonsense solutions to address this crisis.
