[Madison, WI…] Political appointee Sheriff Kalvin Barrett should fully explain his position on a proposed Madison City Council ordinance that would ban using tear gas, said his opponent Detective Anthony Hamilton.
Does Kalvin Barrett stand on the side of evidence based policing and crowd control? Or does the Evers-appointee stand with the “woke” mob that is pushing to tie the hands of law enforcement at the expense of public safety?
NBC15.com reported that Madison Police Chief Barnes is objecting to the ban.
“Kalvin Barrett needs to clearly state his support or opposition to the ordinance banning tear gas. Dane County residents deserve to know whether their sheriff will deploy a safe, common sense crowd control measure, or does he stand with the rioters and looters who destroyed landmarks and businesses?” Said Detective Hamilton.
Detective Hamilton wrote the Madison City Council on August 8, 2022, stating:
“As a candidate for candidate for Dane County Sheriff, I cannot emphasize enough how important it is for the Common Council to reject this proposed ordinance. Eliminating low level, non-contact options for lawful use of force to protect lives and property will have detrimental effects on the citizens of Dane County, and the ability of the City of Madison Police Department to protect them. It would create a political conflict between regional agencies. Political bias has no place in policing.”
