(Kaukauna, Wis.) – The Heart of the Valley Metropolitan Sewerage District’s (HOVMSD) Effluent Disc Filter Project continues to move forward, with bids for the project recently opened. The apparent low bid of $15.7 million was submitted by C.D. Smith Construction of Fond du Lac. Final review and action on the bid will take place at the April HOVMSD Board meeting.

The project, expected to begin this summer, involves installation of an additional effluent filtration step for the District to be able to meet its wastewater effluent permit requirements for suspended solids and phosphorus. The system will be housed in an existing building on the HOVMSD campus, using existing tanks and be fully integrated into the utility’s control system

“We’re very pleased to able to keep this important project moving forward,” said Brian Helminger, HOVMSD District Director. “We are also waiting for final approval of a below interest rate Clean Water Fund loan to cover the project’s design and construction costs.”

Helminger says the project also includes required upgrades to the building’s HVAC (heating, ventilation and air conditioning) system as well as a new roof and additional locker room space for employees.

Construction of the Effluent Disc Filter is expected to begin this summer and be completed in late summer/early fall 2024.
