Kansas City – U.S. Rep. Tom Tiffany (WI-7) led a group of Congressional colleagues in calling for a hearing on legislation that would return predator management control back to states. Tiffany and others sent a letter to the House Committee on Natural Resources leadership requesting the hearing in response to a ruling by a California judge suggesting bureaucrats knew best when it came to managing predator populations like wolves. Continuing to allow federal judges to issue these sweeping decisions allows one person to dictate wolf management, preventing states from implementing locally directed predator management strategy.

“A hearing on the commonsense legislation being proposed to help with wolf management is long overdue,” said Hunter Nation President and CEO Luke Hilgemann. “At Hunter Nation, we put our trust in local experts and conservation and hunting partners to come up with predator management programs that work for them. Too many times, activist judges and bureaucrats who spend no time in the woods or ever have to deal with the negative consequences of an uncontrolled wolf population seem to think they know better, and it’s time to return state control to this problem.”

Hunter Nation applauds the following members for signing onto this letter so that America’s farmers, ranchers, hunters, and pet owners can begin to work together to manage wolves responsibly:

  • Rep. Tom Tiffany (WI-7)
  • Rep. Dan Newhouse (WA-4)
  • Rep. Pete Stauber (MN-8)
