Milwaukee, WI – In response to Planned Parenthood’s call for a national day of action on May 14th to defend abortion rights, the partner organizations of Milwaukee’s International Women’s Day Coalition are hosting a rally and march at 4 PM, set to begin in Zeidler-Union Square. The action comes on the heels of two previous events organized in part by the Coalition around the issue of the leaked Supreme Court majority opinion report on Roe v. Wade.

“If this were simply a matter of voting for this to happen, it would’ve happened already, and we would’ve had the legislation,” said Aurelia Ceja, a representative of the Coalition. “We know that this fight isn’t something we’re going to win by asking politicians; it’s something we’re going to win by showing up.”

Come rain or shine, volunteers and organizers will begin showing up at 3 PM for setup, partner organization tabling, and sign building. The rally portion will officially begin around 4 PM. Speakers will be from several of the partners of the Coalition. The march will proceed to the Federal Building and U.S. Courthouse, the location of the Milwaukee offices for noted anti-choice U.S. Senator Ron Johnson, before rounding back and finishing once more at Zeidler-Union Square.

The partners and sponsors of Milwaukee’s International Women’s Day Coalition include: the Milwaukee Alliance Against Racist and Political Repression, Midcoast MKE, Leaders of Kenosha, Planned Parenthood of Milwaukee, AFSCME Local 1954, UW-Milwaukee Students for a Democratic Society, Niñas Bravas, The Black Rose Initiative, Jewish Voice for Peace, Freedom Road Socialist Organization, Wisconsin Coalition to Normalize Relations with Cuba, the PRAWN, ZAO Church, Women’s Resource Center at UW-Milwaukee, and UW-Milwaukee Students for Justice in Palestine.
