Milwaukee, WI – The partner organizations of Milwaukee’s International Women’s Day Coalition are hosting a rally and march at 4pm on Saturday, May 7 to protest against the recently leaked majority opinion report from the Supreme Court declaring their intent to overturn the 1973 decision in Roe v. Wade which made abortion legal and safe. The event will begin outside the Planned Parenthood location on West Wisconsin Avenue.

“This decision, while not surprising, is no less concerning for the tens of millions of people in this country with the ability to give birth,” said Piper Hogan, a representative of the Coalition who spoke at the initial rally on Wednesday evening. “Despite Justice Alito’s contempt for the will of the masses, it is our job to get into the streets and fight like hell for our rights. Come Saturday, that’s just what we intend to do!”

Volunteers and organizers will begin showing up at 3pm for setup, partner organization tabling, and sign building. The rally portion will officially begin around 4pm. Speakers will come from several of the partners of the Coalition in addition to representatives from the Milwaukee Area Labor Council. The march will begin around 4:30pm and proceed to the Federal Building and U.S. Courthouse, the location of the Milwaukee offices for noted anti-choice U.S. Senator Ron Johnson.

The partners and sponsors of Milwaukee’s International Women’s Day Coalition include: the Milwaukee Alliance Against Racist and Political Repression, Midcoast MKE, Leaders of Kenosha, Planned Parenthood of Milwaukee, AFSCME Local 1954, UW-Milwaukee Students for a Democratic Society, Niñas Bravas, The Black Rose Initiative, Jewish Voice for Peace, Freedom Road Socialist Organization, Wisconsin Coalition to Normalize Relations with Cuba, the PRAWN, ZAO Church, Women’s Resource Center at UW-Milwaukee, and UW-Milwaukee Students for Justice in Palestine.
