Eric Toney enforced Evers’ illegal order, prosecuted business owner and waitress

[Balsam Lake, Wis.] – Today, Adam Jarchow launched a digital ad campaign to mark the two-year anniversary of the Tony Evers-Eric Toney Wisconsin shutdown, which brought our economy to a halt and began the governor’s pattern of dictating through unconstitutional executive orders. Jarchow’s primary election opponent helped enforce an illegal order by prosecuting a business owner, a waitress, and a customer, as well as a rental property owner who allowed kids to swim in a private pool.

On March 17, Evers issued an Emergency Order that shut down our state’s bars, emptied our restaurants, and closed our church doors when it banned gatherings of 10 or more people. One week later, his Administration issued the “Safer at Home” Shutdown Order, which the State Supreme Court eventually ruled was illegal. Eric Toney chose to stand with Evers to enforce the illegal measure by charging hard-working individuals in his community, revealing a severe lack of judgment at a time when Wisconsin families needed leadership.

While sheriffs and district attorneys across the state stood up against illegal government overreach, Eric Toney chose to stand with Democrat Tony Evers. Toney charged a restaurant owner, a waitress, and a customer – all for allowing the customer to have a beer while waiting for their take out order. In another case, he charged a rental property owner for allowing kids to swim in a private pool. In stark contrast, Adam Jarchow fought back by representing a group of small business owners (for free) in the Supreme Court case that ultimately overturned Evers’ “Safer at Home” Order.

“The difference in this race is clear: while Eric Toney prosecuted a business owner and waitress trying to navigate a challenging time, I proudly stood with business owners and pushed back on illegal government overreach,” said Adam Jarchow. “I am the only candidate in this race with a consistent record of standing up to the liberal politicians and the Madison swamp. We need an attorney general with the judgment and political backbone to restore leadership at the Department of Justice, not another ‘go along to get along’ politician.”
