MADISON, WI – The Co-Chairs of the Joint Committee on Finance, State Representative Mark Born (R-Beaver Dam) and State Senator Howard Marklein (R-Spring Green) sent a letter calling on Attorney General Josh Kaul to investigate the rampant reports of Medicaid fraud by Prenatal Care Coordination companies (PNCCs) and to prosecute those committing fraud accordingly.

Following their letter, the Co-Chairs released the following statement:

“Wisconsin laws are clear that Attorney General Kaul has the authority to prosecute crimes in the Medicaid program. But instead of investigating these crimes the Attorney General waited for investigative reporters to do the hard work to expose abuse of our Medicaid program by PNCCs, which are supposed to be preventing infant and maternal deaths in our state.

“While this administration is busy trying to expand welfare and eliminate important safeguards for our public assistance programs, reports are emerging of PNCCs gaming the system to exploit a medical crisis in our state.

“Our letter today calls on Attorney General Kaul to act swiftly to investigate these concerning reports of fraud, and to prosecute those who are abusing our safety net, and those it is supposed to help, for their own personal gain. We expect Attorney General Kaul to take action without delay, and we look forward to hearing an update from him shortly.”
