WINDSOR, WI – In reaction to Friday’s Wisconsin Supreme Court’s 4-3 ruling prohibiting the use of most drop boxes for returning absentee ballots, Judge Everett Mitchell released the following statement:

“With this ruling, the Wisconsin Supreme Court has dealt a crippling blow to everyday Wisconsinites’ access to the ballot box. Drop boxes are secure and reliable, and allow more flexibility for voters, more options for city clerks and a greater path toward people participating in the democratic process. The conservative majority’s decision to ban something as simple as a ballot drop box underscores just how crucial  this upcoming election for Wisconsin Supreme Court is.

“I’m inspired by the late Congressman John Lewis who called upon us to work in the name of justice and equality. Wisconsin deserves a justice that will highlight the necessity of expanding voting options for all communities so that every voice and every vote can count. As justice, I will always get into some Good Trouble for the sake of our democracy.”
