[Waukesha, Wis.] – Wisconsin candidate for governor and former Lt. Gov. Rebecca Kleefisch issued the following statement Monday in honor of Memorial Day:

“Today, we remember those who gave the ultimate sacrifice for our country. Freedom has its price, and the memories of the brave men and women who gave their lives must be engraved in our hearts and minds the same way they’re etched on war memorials and tombstones.

“The families of the fallen have also paid that price, and we must show them our support and appreciation for their sacrifice. We must honor their loved one’s service and sacrifice — ensuring that the causes they gave their lives for are never forgotten.

“Our responsibility today — and every day — must be to ensure we carry on the mission of the heroic soldiers and their families who gave everything for America. In a world where it’s increasingly unpopular to stand up for what’s right, may we always honor their lives by ensuring America remains the land of the free and the home of the brave.

“God bless America.”
