WAUKESHA, WIS — The Milwaukee Police Association, on behalf of its more than 1,400 members living across Wisconsin, announced they are backing Judge Maria Lazar in her race for Wisconsin Court of Appeals District II. They join Sheriffs and DA’s across the district who have endorsed Judge Lazar.

During these increasingly trying times, the over 1,400 men and women of the Milwaukee Police Association appreciate leaders like you who are willing to stand and advocate for Law Enforcement Professionals,” said Andrew Wagner, Vice President of the Milwaukee Police Association.

I am a Judge who has a record of standing for the rule of law, protecting our constitutional freedoms, and supporting law and order,” said Judge Maria Lazar.

BACKGROUND ON JUDGE MARIA LAZAR

First elected to the Waukesha Circuit court in April of 2015, she is the presiding judge in the Juvenile Division and has been a presiding judge in the Criminal Division. She was Drug Treatment Court Judge and served for two years in the circuit court’s Civil Division.

Maria has also served the people of the Badger State as a Wisconsin Assistant Attorney General in the Special Litigation and Appeals Unit. Lazar was lead counsel in several complex civil litigation matters for the State, including the initial state court Act 10/collective bargaining case, the Capitol Access case, the federal redistricting matter, and the First Amendment challenge to the permitting system at the State Capitol, among many others.

She has served as the President of the Milwaukee Bar Association and was a member of its Board of Directors. Lazar also served two terms on the State of Wisconsin’s Board of Governors. Judge Lazar earned her B.A. degree, magna cum laude, from Mount Mary College and her J.D. from Georgetown University Law Center.

District 2 of the Wisconsin Court of Appeals covers 12 counties in the State’s southeastern corner. The counties include Calumet, Fond du Lac, Green Lake, Kenosha, Manitowoc, Ozaukee, Racine, Sheboygan, Walworth, Washington, Waukesha, and Winnebago.
