MADISON — Yesterday, Lt. Governor Mandela Barnes, Democratic nominee for U.S. Senate, hosted a meet and greet with grassroots coalition “Seniors for Mandela” to discuss issues most important to Wisconsin’s seniors. 

During the event, Mandela slammed Ron Johnson for his attacks on Social Security and Medicare, which puts hundreds of thousands of Wisconsin retirees at risk of losing their livelihoods and the benefits they have paid into throughout their lives.

  • Democratic U.S. Senate Candidate Mandela Barnes met with older voters at a diner in Monona on Monday.
  • In August, Johnson proposed moving the two programs out of automatic “entitlement” spending and instead moving them into the “discretionary” budget.
  • “We’re talking about the retirement savings that is a lifeline for people, and to put it on the chopping block, to put it in jeopardy, to put it up to whatever the politics of the day are, Ron Johnson could not be concerned about the lives of our retired community,” Barnes said.
