WISCONSIN RAPIDS – Marshfield Clinic Health System broke ground today for its new hospital in Wisconsin Rapids at the existing Marshfield Clinic Wisconsin Rapids Center, 220 24th Street South.

Leaders from the Health System and Wisconsin Rapids community were on site to commemorate the groundbreaking.

The hospital, which will be named Marshfield Medical Center-River Region at Wisconsin Rapids, will include inpatient beds, emergency department exam and procedure rooms, radiological services that include general x-ray, computed tomography (CT) and ultrasound, as well as on-site lab testing. Patients will also have telehealth access to the Health System’s Marshfield hospitalists and specialists. The hospital is scheduled to be complete in spring 2023.

“This is really an exciting day for our Health System and for the Wisconsin Rapids community,” said Gordon Edwards, Marshfield Clinic Health System chief operating and financial officer. “Earlier this month we opened Marshfield Medical Center-River Region at Stevens Point, and it’s a great new facility up the road. Like Stevens Point, we are going to bring acute care services here to Wisconsin Rapids. We think this brings an alternative care model to the community that integrates our ambulatory medical group practice with higher-end acuity services.”

Wisconsin Rapids Center currently offers urgent/walk-in care, family medicine, optometry, orthopedics, pediatrics, physical therapy, podiatry and nephrology, as well as outreach services in other specialty areas, lab, X-ray and optical services.

The new hospital in Wisconsin Rapids will join the Health System’s Stevens Point hospital to make up the Health System’s River Region, due to both communities proximity to the Wisconsin River.
