Wisconsin Assembly Speaker Robin Vos’ firing of Michael Gableman ends a 14-month reign of error that has indelibly stained the Speaker’s reputation.

The Gableman fiasco cost more than a $1 million in taxpayer dollars, and the fines and attorney’s fees that Wisconsin taxpayers will have to pay due to his illegal destruction of documents tallies another $260,000 and counting.

After this $1.26 million expenditure, Gableman failed to come up with any evidence of voter fraud or illegal behavior by any of the Mayors or Clerks he targeted. On the contrary, he was caught out in dozens of lies and contradictions, most egregiously calling for decertification of the 2020 election (which is not legally possible) in public, while writing Vos in private that the effort would be “sound and fury signifying nothing,” quoting from Shakespeare’s Macbeth.

Indeed, to further quote from the Bard, let us hope Gableman is a “poor player that struts and frets his hour upon the stage and then is heard no more.”
