KOHLER, Wis. (May 25, 2022) – The Blind Horse Restaurant & Winery hosts the 6th annual Run With Angels 5K Run/Walk (www.runwithangels.org) – an opportunity to walk or run in memory of a loved one – on Saturday, June 18. This charitable event was created and inspired by those who have passed that have shaped our lives in some way and who continue to touch our souls as angels among us. The event was created in honor of Addison Emilie Nye, daughter of Master Winemaker and General Manager Tom Nye and his wife Nancy. After the tragic loss of their four-year-old daughter in 2015, they experienced unimaginable grief and created Run With Angels.

“This event has always been about honoring our loved ones that we’ve lost and turning that pain into something healing as we celebrate their memory,” said Tom Nye.

Participants are asked to bring two printed photos of their loved one; one for the memory wall of dedication and one for participants to carry during the race. Additionally, each participant will be given the option of uploading a photo of their loved one upon registration, and The Blind Horse will use it to make a custom label for the “In Memory Of” bottle of wine each participant 21 and older will receive. The registration fee of $55 for participants 21 and older includes a race t-shirt, logoed wine glass, swag bag, and commemorative bottle of wine. Families are encouraged to walk together in the event. Registration fees for children are $35 for ages 13-20, $25 for ages 6-12 and complimentary for ages 5 years and younger. Registration is available online at: https://runwithangels.org/index.php/run-with-angels-register/. Register by Noon on May 27 to guarantee a t-shirt.

Each year the winery creates a limited-edition wine with hand-painted label by a local artist. This year’s keepsake bottle is a 2019 Rhone Blend American Wine that dons a custom label created by artist Evie Grasse of Evie Grasse’s Watercolor Art of Sheboygan.

The beneficiary of the 2022 Run With Angels is Mental Health America (MHA) in Sheboygan County, focusing on their bereavement services and suicide awareness programs. According to MHA, the loss of a loved one is life’s most stressful event and can cause a major emotional crisis. This year, The Blind Horse is proud to partner with and donate all proceeds in support of the MHA mission to promote overall mental health through education, support, public health reform, and advocacy. Since 2016, The Eat. Drink. Give. Charity Program of The Blind Horse Restaurant & Winery has raised more than $250,000 for various charities since 2016. Money raised from Run With Angels, donations and sale of a limited edition The Blind Horse Run With Angels Wine contribute to the program annually.

“Mental Health America is proud to be the recipient of this year’s Run With Angels event.  Our main mission is to assist our community in navigating mental health education and resources,” said Julie Preder, Executive Director of MHA in Sheboygan County. “Our grief and loss programming helps individuals find healthy ways to deal with sorrow during unimaginable times. Proceeds from this event help our agency continue support groups, suicide prevention training, grief programming, and youth mental health services.”
