Kenosha, Wisc. – On the second anniversary of the onset of the deadly Kenosha riots, the Kenosha Professional Police Association Board of Directors has endorsed business leader Tim Michels for Governor.

“The Kenosha Professional Police Association proudly offers our endorsement to Tim Michels for Governor of Wisconsin. Wisconsin needs his strong leadership and support for law enforcement,” said Pete Deates, president of the Kenosha Professional Police Association.

The endorsement follows a day of listening sessions in Kenosha, where Michels, Rep. Bryan Steil and Attorney General candidate Eric Toney heard from Kenosha community members and local law enforcement. The events mark two years since violent, anti-cop rioters tore apart and set fire to Kenosha.

Two years ago, Governor Tony Evers fanned the flames of unrest and was painfully slow to react to the unfolding violence, turning down federal help and denying local requests for sufficient National Guard manpower until it was too late to protect property and prevent bloodshed.

Evers also threw gasoline on the fires burning in Kenosha by commenting that too many people are, “mercilessly killed at the hands of individuals in law enforcement in our state or our country.”

“The men and women of law enforcement in Kenosha and across Wisconsin should know that I appreciate their dedication and support their commitment to keeping the public safe,” said Michels. “Being a police officer is an honorable calling and when I am Governor I will help with police departments’ recruitment and retention efforts across the state.”

As a part of the Tim Michels public safety blueprint, Wisconsin prosecutors would be empowered with the resources and ability to investigate, charge and prosecute agitators who organize and fund violent protests here, whether or not their activities originated in Wisconsin.
