Michels Joined By Rep. Bryan Steil, Sen. Roger Roth, and Veterans to Blast Evers’ Failed Leadership

UNION GROVE, Wisc. – Yesterday, proven leader and Republican gubernatorial candidate Tim Michels blasted failed governor Tony Evers for his inaction on the Union Grove Veterans Home.

At a press conference outside the Union Grove Veterans Home, Michels was joined by Congressman Bryan Steil who highlighted his struggles to get the Evers’ administration to act on ensuring quality care, as well as veterans Sen. Roger Roth and Jason Church.

“Wisconsin veterans put their lives on the line for our country, and they should come home to a state that respects them,” said Michels. “Tony Evers’ failed leadership has caused chaos and ultimately mistreatment of our state’s veterans. When I’m governor, I will make sure that our veterans have quality care and are treated with the dignity and respect they deserve.”

At the time of a May 2022 report by the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel, the state-run facility had been cited for 62 violations and been fined $250,000 over the past five years. Now, a new report from the MacIver Institute details the litany of failures by Tony Evers’ Department of Veterans Affairs that have led to massive, ongoing staff shortages and tragic consequences for the home’s residents.
