GOP guv candidate Tim Michels today launched a new TV ad in which he charges Dem Gov. Tony Evers “blames the police” and “coddles criminals.”

Michels’ campaign said the spot is running on statewide cable and broadcast TV. The focus of the broadcast component is largely the Milwaukee market. The buy is $300,000 after the campaign had been spending $980,000 a week since the wealthy construction exec formally launched his bid in late April.

In the ad, Michels walks across a vacant lot with weeds growing through cracked pavement. Michels says he’s worked all over America in cities like Milwaukee and has witnessed a surge in crime.

He says politicians talk about crime, but he’s seen it firsthand and as governor, “I won’t tolerate it.”

“I’m Tim Michels. I’m not a politician,” he says to close the spot. “In the Army, I swore an oath to keep America safe, and that’s what I’ll do for Wisconsin.”
