MILWAUKEE, WI – The family of Earl Lawhorn and the Milwaukee Alliance Against Racist and Political Repression will lead a car caravan on Friday, August 26th, at 5:30PM. The car caravan will start at Sherman Park, on the corner of 41st Street and Locust Street.

Friday marks the one-year anniversary of Lawhorn’s untimely death at the hands of the police. On August 26th, 2021, Milwaukee police commenced a high-speed chase of Lawhorn. The chase culminated with police officers shooting Lawhorn on the 2800 block of North 41st Street. Although some edited footage was released publicly in October, Lawhorn’s family still has many unanswered questions. According to the family, the District Attorney informed the family that Lawhorn’s gun was broken and unable to fire that day. Lawhorn can also be seen surrendering with his hands up after the initial shots were fired and before the final shots were fired by the police.

As such, we are demanding the following:

  • Justice for Earl Lawhorn

  • The release of the full, unedited footage related to the case documenting the car chase, foot pursuit, and shootings

  • The release of the names of the officers who shot Lawhorn

  • The officers who shot Lawhorn to be charged

The Milwaukee Alliance stands in full solidarity with the family of Earl Lawhorn!

The Milwaukee Alliance Against Racist and Political Repression (MAARPR) campaigns against police crimes committed primarily against the poor and Black, Indigeneous, and people of color. We demand the creation of a civilian police accountability council, or CPAC, to ensure that our community is in direct control of our police force.
