[MILWAUKEE, WI] – On Wednesday, March 23rd the Milwaukee Alliance Against Racist and Political Repression will be holding a rally outside of City Hall for police transparency at 5:00 PM. The Milwaukee Alliance plans on working through the Fire and Police Commission (FPC) by adding the following demands to the FPC Policies Committee the next day:

  • Names of officers involved in police misconduct must be released within 24 hours

  • All footage related to police misconduct must be released within 48 hours

Currently, there is no official guideline within the Milwaukee Police Department (MPD) to release footage of police misconduct – MPD claims that they try to release it within 45 days. The Milwaukee Alliance, however, finds this unacceptable as this “guideline” is not official, transparent, or consistently followed by the police department. There were many examples of this inconsistency as MPD failed to release information in a timely manner after having over three officer-involved use of force incidents during the summer of 2021.

We encourage everyone who agrees with the two demands to hold the FPC and MPD accountable for transparency to attend our rally on Wednesday, March 23rd  and to the virtual FPC Policies Committee meeting on Thursday, March 24th at 5:30 PM.

The Milwaukee Alliance Against Racist and Political Repression (MAARPR) campaigns against police crimes committed primarily against the poor and Black, Indigeneous, and people of color. We demand the creation of a civilian police accountability council, or CPAC, to ensure that our community is in direct control of our police force.
