[Milwaukee, WI] – This Saturday, October 8th, area organizations will come together through Milwaukee’s International Women’s Day Coalition to demand reproductive justice in Milwaukee and across Wisconsin. This is part of a nationwide week of action taking place October 7-9 as Americans march alongside women, trans people, and allies in all 50 states to send a message to politicians everywhere: We Demand Our Rights!
Milwaukee organizations co-sponsoring this march include Freedom Road Socialist Organization (FRSO), Midcoast Collective, Milwaukee Alliance Against Racist and Political Oppression (MAARPR), Protect Our Rights Milwaukee, Reproductive Justice Action – Milwaukee (RJAM), Students for a Democratic Society (SDS), Wisconsin Coalition to Normalize Relations with Cuba and Young Workers Coalition (YWC). Tabling will begin at 3:00pm on Saturday, October 8th at the water fountain just south of the North Point Water Tower. We will begin marching at 4:00pm.
We have 5 demands in this march:
- Access to safe and legal abortion, and full bodily autonomy for people in Milwaukee County NOW
- Free menstrual products and contraceptives
- Paid family leave
- Universal access to high quality childcare
- End US sanctions and attacks that disproportionately impact individuals and families of other nations
A poll completed by Marquette University in July 2022 shows that 60% of Americans support abortion rights in all or most cases. Wisconsin’s State Legislature and State Supreme Court should recognize that Wisconsinsites are demanding legal and safe abortion.
Milwaukee’s International Women’s Day Coalition is a broad coalition of local organizations who take part in the world wide celebration of International Women’s Day in Milwaukee.
