Milwaukee Attorney Molly Gena announced today that she is running for Milwaukee Municipal Court, Branch 2.

The current Branch 2 Municipal Court Judge Derek Mosley has announced he is leaving the bench. The general election is April 4. The primary election, if one is needed, is February 21.

Gena, 42, is a longtime civil legal aid lawyer and the managing attorney for the largest nonprofit law firm in the state.

She has extensive experience representing litigants in both municipal courts and circuit courts in Milwaukee and around the state. “I am running for Milwaukee Municipal Court Judge to continue to serve others and to make positive changes for our city,” Gena said. “I have been representing clients in municipal courts for over fifteen years, and I understand the importance of treating litigants with respect and dignity.”

Gena pledged to use more community service as an option for defendants where appropriate.

“At the same time, I will work to decrease reckless driving by shortening the time it takes to resolve safety-related traffic tickets,” she said. “This means adjudicating cases in a timely manner and working on systemic changes to make the court more efficient, ensuring justice and fairness while enhancing public safety.”

Former Municipal Court Judge Jim Gramling is endorsing Gena.

“Molly Gena epitomizes the qualities we all want in a judge,” he said. “She is bright, energetic, patient, and committed. How do I know? I have worked with her, and observed her work, for 15 years. Molly Gena truly belongs on the bench.”

Milwaukee County Circuit Judges Ellen Brostrom and Kori Ashley also are backing her.

“I enthusiastically endorse Molly Gena to be the next Milwaukee Municipal Court Judge,” Brostrom said. “I have seen Molly work as an attorney firsthand and was struck by the care she demonstrated for her clients and the dignity and thoughtfulness with which she practiced before the court. The City of Milwaukee would be in good hands with her as its next Municipal Court Judge.”

“I know Molly is a skilled and compassionate attorney who deeply understands the Municipal Court process and the systemic and individual barriers to justice that many litigants face,” Ashley said. “I’ve witnessed firsthand Molly’s commitment to making Milwaukee a better, safer, more equitable city.”

Gena lives in Milwaukee with her husband, Attorney Raphael Ramos, and their two children.
