Appleton, Wis. – Following is the statement of Outagamie County Executive and U.S. Senate candidate Tom Nelson in response to the Senate’s confirmation of Judge Ketanji Brown to the U.S. Supreme Court, over a ‘no’ vote by Sen. Ron Johnson:

“Judge Ketanji Brown Jackson will join the Supreme Court as one of the most qualified and worthy nominees in ages. She displayed incredible knowledge and a worthy judicial temperament during her confirmation hearings.

“The Republicans on the Judiciary Committee who assaulted her integrity showed themselves to be ogres from another era and their Qanon nonsense is too gross to be dignified with description.

“Ron Johnson’s unjustified ‘no’ vote is part of a long history of him opposing eminently qualified Black, brown and female jurists, and he is part of the reason that the Supreme Court and the rest of the federal judiciary are bent so far to the right as to be unrecognizable.

“Judge Jackson’s elevation to the Court is much-needed good news as we begin the work of reining in corporate power and restoring protections for women, workers, minorities, LGBTQ people and our environment that are being eroded more and more every day. History moves on, despite Ron Johnson.”
