Appleton, Wis. – Outagamie County Executive and U.S. Senate candidate Tom Nelson is calling out Lieutenant Governor Mandela Barnes for supporting Trump and Stephen Miller position on Title 42 immigration and asylum policy. Barnes told the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel he would not support the lifting of Title 42.

Nelson said in response:

“Lieutenant Governor Barnes has gone from requesting and posing with ‘Abolish ICE t-shirts’ to embracing ghoulish Trump-imposed Stephen Miller-written immigration policies. It’s hard to know what candidate Barnes values really are on any given day.

Especially given the horrors of Russia’s invasion, the U.S.. shouldn’t be upholding double standards that have allowed Ukrainians to be welcomed while thousands of Haitians have been sent back under Title 42. Wisconsin already has one Senator who demonizes refugees and immigrants.

We need a Senator who instead upholds our legacy as a country that welcomes refugees and will bring real sanity to our broken immigration system.”
