Appleton, Wis. – Following is the response of Outagamie County Executive Tom Nelson responding to news of Justice Stephen Breyer’s retirement:

“As the Supreme Court slides further into disrepute with its radical rulings against workers, the environment, healthcare access, COVID science, abortion rights and worker rights, Justice Breyer has given the American people a gift with his long service – and with his timely retirement.

“It goes without saying that the next justice nominated by President Biden must be fully committed to stand up to the radical imbalance that currently exists on the court thanks to three Trump-nominated extremists.

“Today we honor Justice Breyer’s forthright service to working people and the Constitution. Tomorrow we’ll roll up our sleeves and fight to make sure that his replacement on the Court reflects the values of the American people – not those of the special interests currently in power.”
