Appleton, Wis. – Following is the response of Outagamie County Executive and U.S. Senate candidate Tom Nelson to news that President Biden will nominate Judge Ketanji Brown Jackson to the Supreme Court:
“Judge Ketanji Brown Jackson is an excellent and abundantly qualified choice for the Supreme Court and someone who looks to be able to stand up for the rights of workers, communities of color and uphold our constitutional ideals that are being gutted by the current radical majority.
“Judge Jackson’s elevation as a Black woman is historic – and took far too long because of extremist Republicans like Senator Ron Johnson, who have consistently & despicably opposed qualified people of color for the bench. We need MORE Justice Jacksons and FEWER Ron Johnsons.
“Judge Jackson becomes the first justice nominated since Thurgood Marshall to have significant experience as a public defender. She’ll bring a perspective to the bench that has been absent for decades, understanding those that are the most disadvantaged in our society.”
