Appleton, Wis. – Outagamie County Executive and pro-labor populist U.S. Senate candidate Tom Nelson tonight outshined all other candidates at the Our Wisconsin Revolution forum. A Bernie Sanders delegate in 2020, Nelson was the sole candidate to highlight his commitment to several important issues to Wisconsin voters:

  • Taking the no fossil fuel money pledge

  • Supporting a Green New Deal

  • Opposing Line 3 and 5

  • Noting how U.S. foreign policy in Central America has helped to cause immigration crisis

Nelson also mentioned his record of standing up to his own party, whether it be staging a sit-in while in the State Assembly to protest the failure of Democrats and Republicans to pass a budget back in 2007, to challenging Speaker Nancy Pelosi and Majority Leader Chuck Schumer to pass a stock trading ban for members of Congress and their families.

Highlighted quotes:

“When I go to Washington, I’m not just going to be a reliable vote – but I will use my vote to do everything I can to pass a Green New Deal, to stop Line 5 and Line 3, and yes – to pass Medicare for All… Someone has to put their foot down.”

“I’m there for the people. I’m not here to improve my stock portfolio. In fact, I don’t trade stocks at all!”

“I may be the only candidate who has taken the fossil fuel pledge because it is fossil fuel interests that not only control the system but has led to devastating results including not being able to pass a Green New Deal and taking real action on climate change.”

“I support Medicare for All. I do not support just a pathway to Medicare for All. I don’t bury it in one sentence on page 10 on a supposed economic plan.”
