Appleton, Wis. – Outagamie County Executive and U.S. Senate candidate Tom Nelson praised Ukraine President Volodymyr Zelenskyy following his address Wednesday to the Congress, releasing the following statement:

“Ukraine President Volodymyr Zelenskyy continued to inspire the world today with his address to the Congress. His stalwart defense of democracy and freedom is a call for the United States to do more. And do more we must in the form of military and humanitarian aid, heavier sanctions and more suspension of commerce.

“Zelenskyy’s bravery today is in stark contrast to Sen. Ron Johnson, who stood silent as Donald Trump used military assistance to Ukraine as a bargaining chip in a cheap political game. Johnson has yet to fully disclose important details of his 2018 Fourth of July trip to Moscow, where he and other Republicans met with Putin’s right-hand man, Sergey Lavrov. Johnson’s applause for Zelenskyy today is pure hypocrisy.”

“As Ukraine’s president spoke out bravely today, let’s remember: Johnson was silent when it mattered.”
