In response to the Biden administration’s decision to cancel $10,000 in federal student loan debt for borrowers who make less than $125,000 per year, NextGen America President Cristina Tzintzún Ramirez released the following statement:

“Young people across the country have secured yet another historic victory as the Biden administration delivers on its campaign promise for student debt relief. This milestone showcases the power of millions of young Americans who have courageously shared their stories of economic hardship due to overwhelming student debt and pushed this issue to the forefront of our country’s agenda. Today we’ve made meaningful progress in this fight.

“Canceling $10,000 in debt for borrowers who make less than $125,000 per year and families making less than $250,000 per year will provide immediate relief to parents and young people. At NextGen America, we are incredibly proud of the work we have done to make this progress possible, including our activists sending over 17,000 e-letters to the White House. We are working hard to help create a government that works for and serves hard-working people in this country.

“NextGen America is determined to continue advocating for an affordable and accessible educational system and organizing the largest and most diverse generation in American history to make that our reality.”
