Madison, Wis. — On January 31, 2022, Insurance Commissioner Nathan Houdek issued an order prohibiting Salvasen Health, LLC (“Salvasen”) from issuing new policies and renewing existing policies to Wisconsin residents.

Salvasen was issuing limited benefit health plans which did not provide Minimum Essential Coverage under the Affordable Care Act. Salvasen was also not licensed to conduct insurance business in Wisconsin. The stipulation and order may be viewed here.

Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) will be opening a Special Enrollment Period (SEP) for Salvasen customers to get enrolled in one of the many health plan options available on the federal marketplace known as Healthcare.gov. A SEP allows consumers in specific situations to enroll in health coverage outside of the annual Open Enrollment Period.

Consumers are encouraged to look for communication from CMS regarding the dates for that SEP.

Once the SEP opens, Salvasen customers may visit Healthcare.gov to sign up for coverage that is compliant with the Affordable Care Act. They can also visit WisCovered.com or call 2-1-1 to get connected with free, expert help. The online services are available in English, Spanish, and Hmong. 2-1-1 operators are able to offer help in over 180 languages.
