The liberal group Opportunity Wisconsin is again hitting U.S. Sen. Ron Johnson, R-Oshkosh, on TV for having “helped himself” rather than working families.

The group said the new ad is part of a six-figure buy that will run on broadcast TV, cable and digital platforms in the Green Bay, Madison, Milwaukee and Wausau markets. The group says it has spent more than $4.5 million on TV targeting Johnson since early 2021.

The group’s most recent ads have focused on Johnson’s wealth doubling since taking office and the accusation that he pushed a “special tax loophole that benefited his own family’s business.”

The new spot features a woman identified as Rachel M. She’s wearing a mask while grocery shopping and pushing a small child in a cart. As she talks to the camera, the mask hangs over one ear.

“Everything seems to be more expensive these days. Everything costs more. Ron Johnson should be helping families like us, but he seems to have helped himself instead,” she says.

She says an investigation found Johnson pushed through the “loophole” to benefit his family’s business and then “cashed out for $5 million” and has doubled his wealth since taking office.

“It doesn’t seem fair to me. Tell Ron Johnson to stop passing tax laws that benefit himself,” she says.
