OSKHOSH, Wis. – The Paine Art Center and Gardens today announced it will host “The Nature of Light: An Exploration After Dark” – its largest exhibition to date – from Aug 8-Oct 30, 2022. The exhibit, which will feature dozens of illuminated art settings, thousands of colorful changing lights and more than 50 unique geometric sculptures, is the first of its kind in the U.S. and was created exclusively for The Paine through a collaboration between two acclaimed studios renowned for crafting remarkable art experiences. The Nature of Light will not travel to any other locations and will only be available for viewing during its limited time run at The Paine.

“We are honored to bring this remarkable, once-in-a-lifetime exhibit to Oshkosh,” said Aaron Sherer, Paine Art Center and Gardens Executive Director. “This will truly be an international-caliber art exhibition, set amid the beautiful backdrop of The Paine mansion and gardens. We can’t wait to welcome guests from near and far to experience this special offering and the many related events and activities we have planned this fall.”

The Nature of Light is a collaboration between HYBYCOZO, a duo of international artists who create large and intricate illuminated sculptures, and Lightswitch, an international lighting design firm. HYBYCOZO’s work has been exhibited throughout the world from the Smithsonian to Burning Man, and from Dubai to Singapore, and Lightswitch has created major lighting experiences for artists like Elton John and Imagine Dragons, theme parks including The Walt Disney Company and Universal Studios, and botanical gardens and parks like the Morton Arboretum in Chicago. This event will be the pair’s first collaboration on a major exhibition.

Reservations for the exhibition are required. Full price admission to the exhibit starts at $16 for adults, $8 for youth (ages 5-17; kids under 5 are free). Due to daylight constraints in August and early September, The Paine will host a “Preview Presentation” from August 8-September 8. During this time, guests can view the exhibition at a discounted rate (up to 50% off). Beginning on September 12, the “Premier Presentation” will run daily from sunset until 10 p.m. In addition to providing more post-sunset hours to enjoy the exhibit, The Paine will offer special experiences and activities during the Premier Presentation run, including specialty concessions, a gift shop with light up novelty items, HYBYCOZO sculptures and jewelry, unique photo opportunities and more.

The Nature of Light is made possible through support from Lead Sponsor – Community First Credit Union and Lead Partner – the Oshkosh Convention and Visitors Bureau, with additional support provided by the Oshkosh Area Community Foundation, CastlePierce, 4Imprint, Wisconsin Arts Board and Wisconsin Department of Tourism.
