MADISON, WI– Wisconsin State Representative Samba Baldeh (D-48) was among 38 lawmakers to complete a leadership-training program that identifies and assists emerging state and provincial leaders from around the Midwest.

Representative Baldeh joined lawmakers from Wisconsin, 10 other Midwestern states, and 3 Canadian provinces on August 27-31, in Madison, WI, for the Council of State Governments’ 27th annual Bowhay Institute for Legislative Leadership Development (BILLD).

Founded in 1995, BILLD is one of the nation’s premier leadership training programs. The unique educational experience includes courses and seminars designed to develop and strengthen lawmakers’ leadership skills. Participants analyze a variety of public policy issues during the intensive five-day program, including, the economy, trade, and energy policy. Lawmakers are selected to participate in the program through a competitive non-partisan application process.

“It was a great honor to be chosen to participate in this year’s Bowhay Institute,” said Baldeh. “The program is incredibly comprehensive. I have no doubt that the skills that I gained from attending the institute will make me a better legislator and leader. Now I will take those skills back to the Capitol and put them to use on behalf of the people of Wisconsin”

This year’s BILLD was held at the Fluno Center on the campus of the University of Wisconsin in Madison—the city that Baldeh represents in the legislature. The conference is funded through grants from foundations, organizations, and corporate sponsors, as well as contributions by the Council of State Governments’ Midwestern office.
