MADISON – State Representative Elijah Behnke (R-Oconto) released the following statement in response to Governor Evers’ 2022 State of the State address:
“It’s a shame Governor Evers tried to take the accomplishments of the Legislature and claim them as his own. It was legislative Republicans who implemented the $3.4 billion tax cut in the most recent budget, the largest in state history, while the Governor wanted to raise taxes by $1 billion in his proposed budget.
“It was legislative Republicans who sought to get people back to work as soon as the jobs returned. Governor Evers was much more interested in keeping workers reliant on the government, even as our state’s employers were and still are desperate for workers.
“It was the leadership displayed by the Legislature that allowed our state to bounce back. Going forward, my colleagues and I will continue our work for the good of all Wisconsinites.”
