Madison – State Representative Janel Brandtjen, Chair of the Assembly Committee on Campaigns and Elections, responds to the Wisconsin Elections Commission’s (WEC) refusal to honor state law:

“Back in June of this year, in my capacity as the Chair of the Campaigns and Elections Committee, I requested voter roll data from the Wisconsin Elections Commission, which was legally substantiated by a Legislative Council memo. During yesterday’s WEC meeting, the WEC Commission voted to add a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU), which would have violated the statutes, but they continued to press this illegitimate issue and supersede the power of the Legislature. According to WEC staff, the memo from Legislative Council clearly stated that the committee wouldn’t sign the MOU because the committee already met the requirements provided by law. Even in light of the Legislative Council memo, WEC voted along party lines to deny its legal obligations by statute and postpone the issue until there’s a new committee chairman in January.

Once again, the people of Wisconsin are denied transparent information and statutorily required data. WEC’s long list of excuses for not fulfilling their legal obligations should make all voters – Republicans, Democrats and Independents – pay attention to this act of egregious censorship. I believe this data would be incredibly revealing to all parties and that is why WEC refuses to legally comply,” said Rep Brandtjen.
