[Madison, WI] – State Representative Calvin Callahan (R-Tomahawk) released the following statement upon the passage of Senate Bill (SB) 520, authored by Rep. Callahan, which authorizes over $41 million in general fund supported borrowing to build a new Type 1 juvenile correctional facility in Milwaukee County, the first step in finally closing Lincoln Hills:

“When I was elected, I came down to Madison with Lincoln Hills as a top priority. It is clear that throughout history Lincoln Hills has been hit with staffing, inmate, and management issues. The time for the facility to be closed and repurposed is now. I am proud to see SB 520 come to a vote and pass the State Senate and State Assembly in bipartisan fashion. I urge the governor to sign SB 520. Now that it has passed the Legislature, we can look towards repurposing Lincoln Hills to an adult facility, and keeping state jobs in the 35th District.”
