Madison, Wis. – Today, State Rep. Dora Drake (D-11th Assembly District Milwaukee) announced the Wisconsin Legislative Black Caucus recently held their leadership elections.

“As we enter into the 2023-2024 Biennium, the Wisconsin Legislative Black Caucus’s leadership were all elected unanimously for the following positions:

Chair: State Representative Dora Drake

Vice Chair: State Representative Samba Baldeh

Treasurer: State Representative Kalan Haywood

Secretary: State Representative LaKeshia Myers

It is an honor to have this position but more importantly, to work alongside with members of the caucus for one purpose, advocate for the best interests of Black Wisconsinites. I also want to thank the previous leaders in the WBLC for their advocacy, work, and due diligence in elevating the voices of Black residents in the Wisconsin State Legislature.

As we go into the next legislative cycle, it is imperative to create means for economic security, end gun violence, invest in our youth, and continue the fight to end racial and social disparities in areas such as healthcare, housing, education, and voting rights. The truth goes without saying, there is strength in numbers. Collectively, with the members of the Legislative Wisconsin Black Caucus and residents across this state, we can create and enact the change we want to see in our lives and our communities.
