(Madison) In response to the rising cost of gasoline, Governor Tony Evers signed Emergency Order #170 on June 21st, which prohibits price gouging of gas. In response, State Representative Gary Hebl (Sun Prairie) released the following statement:

This is a step in the right direction and I commend the governor for taking action. Wisconsin, along with much of the rest of the country, is seeing historically high prices at the pump, and Evers’ executive order will hopefully help to start to correct that.

The price of oil has decreased 16% over the last two weeks and yet we have seen no reduction in gas prices. The obvious conclusion is that oil companies are keeping prices at the pump high in order to line their pockets. The ramifications for that greed are having a real impact on Wisconsinites. We are still at the beginning of summer. People want to get out on their boats, or take their RVs or cars on road trips. Many unfortunately will choose not to because they cannot afford gasoline.

Much like during the initial COVID surge, we have seen no action from Wisconsin Republicans who control the state legislature. They are once again cozying up to their donors during an election year instead of pausing their campaigns to help Wisconsin citizens. It falls once again on Governor Evers to act and he has responded admirably.

We cannot afford inaction, and Governor Evers recognizes that. I would like to extend my thanks to Governor Evers for once again fighting for all Wisconsin residents.
