MADISON, Wis. – Today, Senator-Elect Dianne Hesselbein (D-Middleton) was appointed by Senate Democratic Leader Melissa Agard (D-Madison) as the Ranking Democrat on the Senate Committee on Health and the Joint Legislative Audit Committee. Hesselbein was also appointed to the Senate Committees on Agriculture & Tourism; Financial Institutions & Sporting Heritage; Mental Health, Substance Abuse Prevention, Children & Families; and Natural Resources & Energy. Hesselbein released the following statement:

“I am honored to be appointed to these committees. The fight for reproductive freedom is one of the most important issues facing our state right now and I fully expect that the Committee on Health will be at the forefront of that battle. As Democrats, we need to do all that we can to repeal Wisconsin’s 173-year-old criminal abortion ban and restore full reproductive freedom in Wisconsin.

“Additionally, I am excited to continue my work on the Audit Committee where I served in the Assembly from 2021-2022. The Audit Committee is one of the most important watchdog tools we have in the Legislature but recently it has also been used for political attacks. During this past session the Republicans on the committee called for an audit attempting to prove the Big Lie. But as most of us already knew, the audit found no trace of widespread voter fraud from the 2020 general election.

“There is no doubt that this session will be a challenging one politically, but I will continue to fight for our shared democratic values in these committees and on the Senate floor.”

Hesselbein was recently elected to the 27th Senate District after serving ten years in the State Assembly representing the 79th Assembly District. She is also the Senate Democratic Caucus Vice-Chair.
