MADISON – Following the conclusion of today’s floor session, Assembly Democratic Leader Greta Neubauer (D-Racine) released the following statement:

“The agenda that Assembly Republicans brought to the floor today was deeply disappointing and failed to address Wisconsinites’ real concerns. Instead of voting on legislation that would address the challenges faced by working Wisconsinites, Republicans decided to prioritize dangerous bills that would allow guns in our schools and places of worship. Instead of playing political games, we should be working to address the deadly consequences of gun violence in our state.

“The legislature cannot continue to ignore the elephant in the room: gun violence has touched every corner of our state, and it will continue to threaten the safety of our communities as long as Republicans ignore the issue. Wisconsinites understand responsible gun ownership, and we know that common-sense solutions can make a massive difference in the gun violence epidemic. More than 80% of Wisconsinites support background checks on every gun sale – it’s past time to move this legislation forward.”
