MADISON – Assembly Democratic Leader Greta Neubauer (D-Racine) released the following statement in anticipation of Assembly floor proceedings:

“Republican Leadership is bringing bills to the floor today that make clear that they will continue using Wisconsin’s students and schools as political pawns. Public schools are the cornerstones of our communities. Yet, Republicans continue to hold education funding hostage in the legislature. They have time and time again refused to make the needed investments in our schools and our kids.

“As Governor Evers has made clear — what’s best for our kids is what’s best for Wisconsin. We need to ensure our schools have the tools and resources they need to succeed. Every student in Wisconsin deserves high quality education at every stage of their life, and it’s our job to make sure that’s possible.

“Today, we have the opportunity to change the tide. After years of inadequate funding for education at every level, we can make meaningful investments in our students and schools. Assembly Democrats have put forward multiple amendments that would meaningfully increase per pupil aid to school districts, increase the reimbursement rate for special education, and provide hundreds of millions of dollars for the UW System and WI Technical College System.

“I sincerely hope legislative Republicans realize the error of using our public schools in their political game, and they join us in pursuing significant and needed investments in Wisconsin’s students.”
