MADISON, Wis. — Following the publication of a draft U.S. Supreme Court ruling that would overturn Roe v. Wade, Assembly Democratic Leader Greta Neubauer (D-Racine) released the following statement:

“Let me make sure one thing is clear: right now, Roe v. Wade is still the law of the land. Abortion remains legal in Wisconsin. While this is a draft opinion — the Supreme Court has not yet made a ruling — it shows a conservative majority on the court is poised to make a brazenly political decision. There would be immediate and serious consequences for people seeking reproductive healthcare across the country.

“Should the Supreme Court adopt this opinion as its final ruling, Wisconsin’s criminal abortion ban from 1849 would take effect, criminalizing every abortion in Wisconsin. We cannot let this happen. The severity of the situation calls for action, at all levels, to codify bodily autonomy, privacy, and access to reproductive healthcare in law. We must act now and we must not go backwards.”
