MADISON – Following the conclusion of Gov. Evers’ annual State of the State address, Assembly Democratic Leader Greta Neubauer (D-Racine) released the following statement:

“Since the beginning of his time in office, Governor Evers has led with empathy, kindness, and compassion — consistently doing what is right for Wisconsin. Thanks to his steadfast leadership throughout the last three years, Wisconsin is in a strong position. With the largest surplus in state history, we have a unique opportunity to show Wisconsinites that government can be a force for good.

“I am thrilled that Governor Evers announced that he will call a special session to address rising costs for our working families, reduce barriers to employment, and invest much-needed funds in our schools. I wholeheartedly support this special session call to pass Governor Evers’ surplus plan. We must continue to deliver targeted relief to the folks who need it.

“Tonight’s address highlighted the fact that Governor Evers listens to the people of Wisconsin. His investments in military personnel and veterans services, student mental health, and rural healthcare services show he is truly listening to the people of our state.

“Governor Evers has kept the promises he’s made. He’s dedicated more than $100 million in funds to expand Wisconsin’s broadband infrastructure. He’s improved more than 1,770 miles of highways and more than 1,250 bridges. He signed into law $480 million in tax relief for Wisconsin families and businesses affected by the pandemic. It’s clear that he is delivering real solutions to Wisconsin’s challenges.

“I congratulate Governor Evers on his address and look forward to his continued leadership in delivering results that will help Wisconsinites in every corner of our state.”
