MADISON – Assembly Majority Leader Jim Steineke (R-Kaukauna) issued the following statements after Governor Tony Evers delivered his 2022 State of the State address:

“Tonight, Governor Evers tried to take credit for a slew of Republican victories, including a massive $2 billion tax cut, record low unemployment, and the largest rainy day fund in state history. As a former teacher, you’d think he’d know a thing or two about taking credit for another’s work.

“Just last year, Evers tried to raise taxes by $1 billion. Tonight, he wants to give everyone $150. This is nothing more than an election-year ploy by a failed governor to buy votes. He is not fooling anybody with this gimmick.

“Astonishingly, Governor Evers blamed businesses for the rising costs of goods and services. In reality, it’s the result of the reckless spending by the governor and the Biden Administration. It just further shows he fails to understand the consequences of his own proposals.

“For four years, Governor Evers has pushed a radical-left agenda that includes more government, higher taxes, and less freedom. Republicans are committed to cutting taxes, protecting our police officers, and empowering parents to get involved in their children’s education.”
