MADISON, WI – Today, Dane County District Attorney Ismael Ozanne decided to charge DCI Special Agent Mark Wagner in the shooting of Quadren Wilson. On this, Rep.Stubbs (D-Madison) released the following statement:

“All law enforcement agents must be held to the highest standards in our community. It is vital that whenever an officer’s action results in injury, that the proper process takes place to ensure the rights of the victim, and the accountability of the officer.”

“First and foremost, I want to extend my apologies and prayers to Mr. Wilson and his family regarding this situation. Secondly, I want to thank Dane County Sherriff Kalvin Barrett for conducting a proper investigation, and Dane County District Attorney Ismael Ozanne for putting in due diligence on this case. It cannot be stressed how important it is to have leaders that take seriously the need for officer accountability and community safety”

“As the Co-Chair of the Speaker’s Taskforce on Racial Disparities, I worked alongside leaders of faith, community activists, and law enforcement experts. Through this committee, it was clear that the relationship between law enforcement and community must be upheld through accountability. Citizens must be able to depend on their local law enforcement, and local law enforcement must have the trust of their community in order to act effectively.”

“No matter the outcome of this case, we must continue to advocate for a policing system that puts community safety first. Criminal harm done by officers’ makes our agencies less effective, and our communities less protected. By reinforcing accountability, we are reinforcing our commitment to a safer Wisconsin”
