On November 15, 2022, Representative Stubbs gave the following statement on the death of Devin Chandler. A former University of Wisconsin wide receiver, Mr. Chandler was among the three people killed in a Sunday night shooting in Charlottesville, Virginia:

“First, I would like to send my condolences to all the family and friends of those lost and wounded. Devin was a Badger until he transferred to the University of Virginia last season, but once a Badger always a Badger. He was a valued part of the UW-Madison family and we must wrap our arms around his family during this time.”

“Today we celebrate Devin’s life, and honor his memory. Devin’s bright future was cut short far too soon, and my prayers are with his family, friends, and loved ones. Words cannot begin to describe what his loss means to us as a community. Hearing the words of those closest to him, it is clear Devin had great potential and that he brought joy into every room he stepped into with his infectious smile and laughter.”

“Once again, a shooting has torn the fabric of our community. It is a shame to see the light be snuffed out from one of our rising stars of tomorrow. Devin’s life impacted so many people in Madison, and our community will never forget his time here. From Charlottesville to Madison, my prayers are with the community of people who had the opportunity to know him in life.”
