Madison, WI – On August 15th, UW System President Jay Rothman announced the creation of the Wisconsin Tuition Promise, a new program to ensure more students from Wisconsin can access higher education. The Wisconsin Tuition Promise is modeled after Bucky’s Tuition Promise which offers no-cost tuition to eligible UW-Madison students.

“Thank you President Rothman for showing your dedication and commitment to accessible higher education. As a member of the Assembly Committee on Colleges and Universities, I am proud to see real efforts being made to make higher education available to more people.”

“Because of the Wisconsin Tuition Promise, incoming freshmen whose families make $62,000 or less could be eligible for up to four years of no-cost tuition. Transfer students will be eligible for up to two years of no-cost tuition. No matter a student’s economic background, the UW System is keeping bachelor’s degrees within reach. This initiative could help support up to 8,000 students and will be integral to maintaining the high quality and standards of the UW System.”

“Quality higher education should be available to all Wisconsin students, regardless of financial status. This initiative will help provide that opportunity to more Wisconsin residents. I’m proud to see that UW-Madison has led the charge in making all Wisconsin System schools more affordable and more accessible for students of all backgrounds.”

“Higher education is a gateway to generational growth and sustainable success. The Wisconsin Tuition Promise will be invaluable to many Wisconsin families, and this is a great step toward accessibility. UW System schools are already among the most affordable in the Midwest, but we can always strive to accomplish more, and the Wisconsin Tuition Promise does exactly that.”
