MADISON – Today, Republican leadership bypassed a vote on repealing Wisconsin’s 1849 criminal abortion ban by gaveling out a special session called by Governor Evers without taking any action. Representative Lisa Subeck (D-Madison) released the following statement:
“The people of Wisconsin strongly support the right to safe and legal abortion, yet Speaker Vos and Assembly Republicans answer only to the most extreme elements of their party.
Abortion is healthcare, and every Wisconsinite deserves the freedom to make personal reproductive health care decisions without interference from politicians.
By refusing to vote on or even to debate repeal of Wisconsin’s abortion ban, Republicans have again put politics ahead of our health, safety, and reproductive freedom.”
