MADISON – Today, State Representative Lisa Subeck released the following statement regarding yesterday’s ruling by the Wisconsin Supreme Court adopting electoral district maps for the next 10 years. In a 4-3 ruling, the court adopted the maps proposed by Governor Tony Evers for Wisconsin State Senate, Assembly, and Congressional districts.

“Wisconsin deserves fair maps that allow voters to choose their own representatives, not the other way around. Through its ruling, the Supreme Court clearly rejected the heavily gerrymandered maps passed by Republicans and instead chose Governor Evers’s proposed maps.

Given the ‘least change’ restrictions adopted by the court prior to its final ruling, they chose the best option that was before them. This represents a step forward toward fairer maps, but these maps are still built upon the extreme Republican gerrymander of 2011.

I remain committed to fighting for non-partisan redistricting reform that would guarantee a fair process and ensure fair maps for the future.”

Representative Lisa Subeck has represented the 78th Assembly District since 2015 and serves as vice-chair of the Assembly Democratic Caucus.
